In fairytales, frogs usually turn out to be princes or princesses under a curse, waiting for someone to give them a kiss and help them return to their old form. In real life, frogs are just frogs, but that doesn’t make them any less interesting. Check out these fun facts, and you’ll find out why.

Frogs Eat Their Skin

Most frog species shed their skin on a weekly basis. They don’t let it go to waste and usually eat it afterward. This one might sound disgusting to us, but frogs really don’t care as long as they have something to snack on.

Frogs Use Eyes to Swallow Its Meal

If you ever watched a frog eat a bug, you probably noticed it blinked. This isn’t an expression of satisfaction. As it turns out, the frogs push their eye bulbs downwards at this moment, which helps them swallow their meal.

A Group of Frogs is Called an Army

When frogs get together, they form an army. They might not be planning to attack someone, but this is an expression that experts use. And it is so cool if you ask us.

Some Frogs Can Weigh Seven Pounds

We usually picture frogs as tiny hopping reptiles. However, some frog species can be much larger than you might imagine. The Goliath frog, which can be found in parts of Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, can grow more than two feet in length and weigh up to seven pounds.

Most people believe that reptiles can’t be affectionate. However, an adorable relationship between Instagram user Jake Beine and his giant Argentine tegu lizard named Blue shows otherwise.

Beine rescued Blue from a negligent owner a few years ago, and the lizard needed some time to get comfortable in a home where everyone loves and appreciates him. But after some time, Blue became the sweetest and cuddliest pet ever.

In a recent video shared on Instagram, Beine and Blue can be seen enjoying one of their cuddling sessions. The lizard even gives Beine some licks to show his affection.

In a recent chat with The Dodo, Beine said that Blue loves humans. He is always looking to play or cuddle with everyone.

“He makes people light up that’s one of the coolest things about Blue, “Beine said about Blue. “He will run to the door and greet you when you get home … I think he seeks out the affection that he didn’t have at first. “

It appears that Blue particularly enjoys the company of Beine’s grandmother, and the feeling seems to be mutual. Beine even claims that grandma will often rather hang out with Blue than with him or the family dog.

Dragons have been inspiring writers and artists for centuries, despite the fact they don’t truly exist. Alexey Kashpersky always wished they were real so he decided to do something about it and found the closest thing that comes to a dragon—his albino super crimson iguana Tamerlan.

Kashpersky has been fascinated by dinosaurs and dragons from the first time he encountered them in books as a kid. There was something magical and enchanting about their primal power, and his obsession with dragons didn’t fade away in the years to come.

Kashpersky’s dream of owning his own dragon came true when he adopted Tamerlan. This artificially bred iguana hatched in 2018, and he looks just like a tiny dragon, despite not being anywhere near as fierce because he was born blind due to albinism.

Kashpersky, who is a creative director by trade, decided to share Tamerlan’s story with the world and found viral fame on TikTok and Instagram with Dragon & Me.

“Our goal is to educate people, share rays of positive emotions, inspire with nature’s incomparable beauty, and never stop being creative along our journey… We have grown into a huge community with over half a million dedicated dragon lovers and friends,” he writes on his official website.

Tortoises can make really amazing pets, and the 25-year-old woman Gaia learned this first-hand when Mia walked into her life. This adorable Hermann’s tortoise inspired Gaia to learn everything there is to know about tortoise care, and she’s now sharing her knowledge with the rest of the world.

Gaia is a 25-year-old tortoise lover from Italy, who currently resides in New York with her pet tortoise Mia. They’ve been inseparable since late 2022, and Mia was still a hatchling, fresh out of the soil when Gaia decided she wanted to adopt her.

Mia is the first tortoise that Gaia owned, but she wasn’t totally inexperienced when she adopted her because she’s taken care of a lot of turtles in the past. She was a tortoise lover and endless researcher since her childhood years, and it came in handy that she had a tortoise breeder in her family growing up.

Gaia decided to start an Instagram page for Mia shortly after adopting her and used it to mix several of her passions into one. She studied to be a teacher, in addition to attending a few courses about digital marketing and content creation, and that’s why her Instagram page is filled with educational content. She’s using her platform to build a community of tortoise lovers, who are willing to share their knowledge about these amazing creatures with the world.

If you’re thinking of welcoming a lizard into your home, leopard geckos are probably one of the first species you’ll take into consideration. They’re a popular pet species amongst reptile owners, and these interesting facts will help you gain a new appreciation for these adorable creatures.

They Have Eyelids

Most geckos have glassy transparent lenses over their eyes instead of eyelids, but leopard geckos are a rare exception to this rule.

Climbing Abilities

Another thing that separates the leopards from other gecko species is the lack of sticky lamellae, which means their climbing abilities aren’t that great.

Powerful Tails

Most geckos have tails that can regenerate when lost, and that’s also the case with this species. They can also use their tails as a food supply because they can store food inside them, in addition to using them to guard off predators.

Replaceable Teeth

One of the most interesting parts of the leopard geckos anatomy are their 100 tiny teeth. They have the ability to replace their teeth every three to four months, known as polyphyodonts.

Nocturnal Creatures

When not held in captivity, leopard geckos are nocturnal creatures. They avoid the heat of the day by sheltering in different hiding spots and hunt for food at dusk when the temperature is more favorable.

Having a tortoise as a pet may not be the most conventional choice, but that didn’t stop the social media star Chas from welcoming one into her home. Her tortoise Fig became a true Instagram sensation, and he’ll convince you that turtles can make amazing pets.

Chas is the mastermind behind the Instagram page @through.the.lleaves, who has 800,000 Instagram followers under her belt. She describes herself as a “shamelessly extra pet parent”, who has four cats Kusa, Gouda, Beifong, and Seymour, a dog Zuko, a lizard Goji, and the absolute star of the show – the tortoise Fig.

Fig became a true sensation after Chas shared a video that captures one day in his life, showing him doing everything from hanging around with cats to playing in a bowl of water and enjoying a fun day outside.

Chas’ videos make the whole thing look easy, but she admits everyone should think twice before adopting a pet tortoise.

“Tortoises are such a huge commitment. They grow to be SO big and need a lot of outdoor space to roam… They are absolutely wonderful pets, so smart, have amazing personalities, but are one of the hardest pets to own so please consider this,” she explained on her Instagram page.

We know that alligators spend most of their time in the water. But what happens when the winter strikes and that water is frozen? Well, they adapt in an impressive fashion.

As it turns out, alligators remain under the sheet of ice and enter a state of brumation, which is the reptile’s version of hibernation. They only leave their snout above the ice surface so they can breathe.

Reptile rescue Gator Country recently showcased this unusual technique, called “icing”, in a viral video shared on TikTok. The clip shows an alligator frozen in the pond with just his snout poking out while a staff member explains what is happening with the reptile.

“That animal is in full hibernation right there. His heart is beating 3 beats per minute. Folks, that’s amazing. That’s how alligators survive in the ice,” a Gator Country staff member explains.

The video got a lot of attention on social media, with a lot of internet users learning about alligators’ winter mode for the first time.

“This is honestly the coolest knowledge I’ve gotten in a while,” one TikTok user wrote in the comments section of the video.

“Thank you for posting, I was literally thinking about them the other day!” another TikToker added.

For some, lizards are intriguing creatures with the superpower of regeneration. For others, they are scary-looking reptiles that are nothing but trouble. But one thing is for sure, they are fascinating animals. These facts about lizards prove that.

Lizards Live on Every Continent Except Antarctica

If you want to run away to a place where there are no lizards, you will need to go to Antarctica. This is because they live in every other part of the world.

Only One Lizard Species Can Swim

Lizards don’t like the water very much because they can’t swim. The only lizard that has this ability is the marine iguana, which is endemic to the Galapagos Islands and gets most of its food from sea algae. One additional exception could be a common basilisk, which can’t swim but has the ability to run on water.

Lizards Can Detach Their Tail on Purpose

We know that lizards can regenerate their tail. But did you know that they can detach it on purpose as well? This is one of the defensive tactics that lizards use when encountering a predator.

Lizards Live Anywhere From 5 to 50 Years

Lizards in the wild live around five years on average. However, their lifespan substantially increases when they are in captivity and provided with ideal conditions. Gecko is known to live up to 20 years in captivity, while some specimens have been observed to live even 50 years.
