]]>Most cats tend to avoid water at all cost, but jaguars are different. They love water and will often take a go for a swim, either to cool themselves or to find their lunch for the day.
Jaguars are loners and only get together to mate. While on their own, they are known to take up a large territory that can reach 54 square miles in size. They are also quite diligent in marking that territory to tell other jaguars that they are not welcome.
Jaguars are not particularly selective when it comes to their food, as long as it’s meat. They will target various land animals like deer and rabbits but also go for fish and even crocodiles.
Jaguars are quite protective of their cubs. They remain with them for up to two years, making sure the cubs can survive in the wild on their own.

]]>Soltys recently uploaded a video on social media in which she revealed how she keeps her two beagles, Kiki and Koko, occupied during the day. Her method is quite simple and only requires a bag of frozen peas.
According to Soltys, she simply takes a handful of frozen peas and scatters it across her backyard. The dogs get occupied with searching for peas, and when they find one, they get themselves a “low-calorie” snack.
The video got quite a lot of attention on social media, with the hack being praised by other dog owners who were looking for ways to keep their dogs entertained.
“At first, I started throwing treats around, but beagles are prone to gaining weight so I needed something low-calorie,” she shared in a chat with Newsweek. “That’s when I came up with peas. They’re small, they’re extremely low in fat. It was the perfect solution, and both Kiki and Koko love veggies.”

]]>Buzas is a talented graphic designer and illustrator who creates all sorts of intriguing illustrations inspired by animals. She recently did a series of works in which she decided to imagine animals as hard-working professionals.
In her works, animals take on different jobs that suit their skills in an amusing way. For example, an otter, known for having bad eyesight, works as an optician.
Lion, on the other hand, is working as a lifeguard on the beach, while a fox is putting out fires as a firefighter.
According to Buzas, the series was inspired by one of the books she enjoyed as a child.
“When I was a child my favorite book was about dogs, who wore clothes and had professions,” she explains.

]]>New York native Anna Cory-Watson recently had a close encounter with a fun-seeking bear, who decided to crash her yard and use it as a playground. Cory-Watson kept a safe distance, but she managed to record a video that showcased the animal’s playful character.
The bear first decided to get some soccer practice done using a soccer ball that he found in the yard before picking up a hose and almost getting entangled in it. His attention then turned to the family’s trampoline, and you know that he had to give it a try.
“I immediately grabbed my phone and started taking pictures,” Cory-Watson said in a chat with The Dodo. “I couldn’t believe it.”
As it turns out, the bear stretched his playing time to a couple of hours before deciding to take a breather. He then simply left the yard, probably going to check out how much the world had changed while he was asleep.

]]>Did you know that your old, dried up mascara could come in very handy? Once it has stopped doing the job on your lashes it can be used to brush fly eggs and larva out of animal fur.
The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge in Western North Carolina is a non-profit organization which helps injured and orphaned wild animals. Once they open their new triage, they will be able to accept even more injured and orphaned animals, reaching over 2,000 animals within the first year of opening.
For this huge increase in ‘residents’ the refuge will require a number of products to help them in their important task., and as such has an online wish list of items they need, which includes donations of cleaned, used mascara wands.
Savannah Trantham, a member of staff at Wildlife Refuge says that mascara wands are really useful tools, especially for brushing animal fur. She says that after washing the wand in hot, soapy water the mascaras can be sent directly to the Wildlife Refuge at the following address:
Appalachian Wild
P.O. Box 1211
Skyland, NC 28776
To raise awareness and spread the message, The Refuge asks those who decide to send used mascaras to use the hashtags #smallbrushbigimpact, #Brushthebugsaway and #AppalachianWild on social media, in the hope that more and more people will rise to the occasion and help in this important task.
