What Happened When This Boy Set Out to Help His Local Dog Shelter

When he wanted to do something to help the dogs at the local shelter, 13-year-old Jace called to ask how he can help. What he learned was that many of the dogs do not have proper beds to sleep in while they wait for adoption or recover from surgery. So he took it upon himself to raise $400 for supplies, and with a little help from his fellow Scouts, he built 12 dog beds for the shelter.

Alongside helping the animals he loves, Jace is working toward earning his Eagle Scout Award, which requires a scout to show leadership and maturity, and also to provide a service to the community or a non-profit organization. He’s hoping to beat his older brother, who received his award just before he turned 14. Jace looks to beat that by a couple of months. At this pace, he’s a shoo in.
