Believe it or not, there is such a thing as a Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon contest in California. It takes place every September in the beach-side town of Del-Mar.
The competition starts in the morning with a size-based heat where dogs of similar sizes compete in the waves. In the afternoon, the Best-In-Surf takes place where dogs of all sizes go up against each other.
It is quite the feat to watch. The owners swim out with their pets and help them to mount the boards. But after launch, the dogs are surfing all on their own! This takes a whole lot of good training and a great sense of balance.
So who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
