Karina Mills is a talented artist who sees beauty everywhere around, even in seemingly bizarre things that most people would rather avoid. She’s the founder of Bewitched Oddities, and many of her creations are giving butterflies, moths, and other insects a second life.
Based in Eugene, Oregon, Mills specializes in crafting perfectly decorated vintage goth frames that look straight out of a Victorian era. She mostly specializes in using insects, including butterflies, moths, and grasshoppers, but we’ve also seen her utilize taxidermy animals, skulls, and bones to make her Bewitched Oddities truly pop.
Mills is on a quest to give flora and fauna used in her work a second life, and she rarely uses objects that haven’t been plucked directly from nature.
“Everything, from the bugs/animals to the moss and flowers I use in my pieces are all real! I try my best to only use real things. Sometimes I incorporate little figurines or paint things different colors, but this will be stated in the listing,” she explains on her official website.
Despite working with flora and fauna, Mills doesn’t want her art to disturb nature, and she would never kill an insect for the sake of art. The ones she uses in her work are sourced from breeders and insect farms, keeping her frames as sustainable as possible.
