Anyone who has a dog in their household knows they don’t like to get their nails trimmed. They will often try to run away or do something unexpected to get out of it. However, it is important that your dog has its nails trimmed as long nails can lead them to develop various health issues.
Dog owners use lots of tricks to trim their pet’s nails in a gentle and comfortable way, but the one recently demonstrated on @_kirbythedog_ TikTok profile has to be one of the simplest and most convenient.
The clip, which already has more than 16 million views, shows a dog owner placing a clipboard with sandpaper attached to it in front of her dog. The dog starts scratching its nails across the sandpaper, wearing them down, before receiving a treat.
“This worked so much better than expected and was so simple to teach!” it says in the caption of the video.
While many TikTok users were surprised with the efficiency of the trick, some wondered whether it has some side effects on the pupper. Luckily, there is not.
“I was nervous it might, but I made sure to check often, and they have been totally fine! He doesn’t spend a long time doing this, though,” the dog owner responded to one of the comments.
