Social media exposure can sometimes result in great things. For one cat, becoming famous on TikTok was a way to find a “furrever home” after no one wanted to adopt her.
Back in April, San Diego, California-based animal shelter Smittens Rescue posted a heartbreaking video featuring a cat named Monte. As explained in the video, Monte took part in an adoption event but received no applications despite waiting all day.
The video quickly spread on social media, getting more than three million views. TikTok users rushed to the comments section to share how moved they were by Monte’s story, with a large number of them offering to adopt him through the comments section.
As it turned out, TikTokers were quite serious about wanting to provide Monte with a new home. Smittens Rescue was flooded with adoption requests, and after carefully considering all the applications, they found him a human in a few days.
In a follow-up video, Smittens Rescue shared footage of Monte in his new home while revealing that the cat now goes by the name of Mushi.
“We can’t thank everyone enough for all of the love, support, and kind words you had for Monte. Because of YOU, he went from 0 applications to over 40 in the span of 2 days!” Smittens Rescue wrote in the caption of the video.
