Enter the Kauai Humane Society, who have devised an adorable plan that lets you take a shelter dog on a field trip for the day as you explore the beautiful island.
The field trips are a great chance for the dogs to get some exercise outside the shelter while becoming adjusted to an outdoor lifestyle. Meanwhile, you get to explore the beautiful beaches or go on a breathtaking hike together.
And if you happen to fall in love with your puppy pal while you’re vacationing together, the humane society will help you with the adoption process and travel arrangements to get your new best friend home with you safely — the shelter says this happens more than you think, with about four dogs adopted through the field trip program each month.
